In all the years of living in London I only recently discovered there is an annual free festival called Chelsea in Bloom held at the same time as the Chelsea Flower Show. This festival sees retailers in Sloane Square and Knightsbridge transform their shops into horticultural havens and this year marks the 10 year anniversary of Chelsea’s prestigious annual floral art show.
Every year the floral art show has a different theme and this year the retailers had to present their take on the theme of ‘Carnival‘ as we approach the 2016 Olympics in Rio. The display was on from the 23rd of May to the 28th of May.
As I work close to the area I took the opportunity during my lunch hour to be a London tourist and see this floral art show for the first time. On the Chelsea in Bloom website a map is provided where you can walk the tour at your own leisure or complimentary rickshaw rides are available from Sloane Square where you’ll be chauffeured around.
These are some of the pictures I took:
At the end of the week the retailers are judged for the best display. This year Monica Vinader was crowned the overall winner. If you’d like to see all this years entries then head over to the Chelsea in Bloom website.
Now that I know about this annual floral art show I’ll definitely be looking out for next years one. As I love walking around London checking out different things, it was such a great way for me to spend my lunch hour on a sunny day and I would definitely recommend it to you to look out for in future too.
Did you manage to see this years Chelsea in Bloom show? What did you think of it? I’d love to hear your comments.
